Philip Thompson

Philip is a graduate of the University of Toronto - Master of Social Work; and the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary - Master of Arts Marriage and Family Counselling and Master of Arts Christian Education. His undergraduate education in Social Work was done at the University of the West Indies. Over the years he’s served in a range of Human Services settings as an Educator, Administrator, and Clinical Practitioner. After a period of service as a High School Teacher, Philip served as the Administrator/ Staff Worker for the Inter School/Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship of Trinidad and Tobago. His last major undertaking was as part of the team that established the Student Support Services Division at The University of Trinidad and Tobago. He was assigned responsibility for service delivery in the Bachelor of Education Programme at the Corinth Teacher’s College campus of the UTT. His goal was to positively impact the next generation of educators as they prepare to make a difference in our nation and the world. To Philip each represented ministry, acting in obedience to the Holy Spirit and through His empowering for the glory of God and His kingdom.
In serving individuals, groups and organizations he draws on his experiences in roles of Social Worker, Counsellor, Educator, Change Management Specialist, Administrator and integrates these within the context of his faith. As the Senior Associate of the Family Life Centre, a Christian Counselling and Training organization he has initiated, organizations, individuals and families are equipped to deal with the challenges of 21st Century life. He is often called upon as a resource person to speak on issues that impact individuals and organizations as they seek to fulfill their purpose and potential. He has also served in the design and implementation of customized interventions to address these.
Philip is married to Paula Fuller. They relocated to the Bay Area from Trinidad for medical reasons seven years ago. He became a part of the South Bay Community Church family after his marriage to Paula. At SBCC Philip serves as an Elder and a Small Group leader. He has also assisted in leading the “Spiritual Friends Ministry.” He shares in the Pulpit Teaching Ministry, but can be most often found behind the scenes serving at the Saturday Evening Service. At his home Church in Trinidad Philip served as Assistant Pastor and as a Youth Minister. On the national level he was also part of the leadership of the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Christian Counselors.
